When it comes to Australian cinema, Camelot Cinemas has got its eye on a major step forward.
It’s been given permission to open three cinemas across Sydney’s CBD in what it calls the ‘new cinema experience’.
The decision to allow Camelot cinemases is a huge win for the film industry and one that will see it open up the Australian market to foreign filmmakers.
While Camelot is in the process of opening cinemas throughout Australia, it’s now allowed to open a new two-screen cinema in Sydney’s west.
The Sydney-based company is hoping to attract film lovers from across the globe and also has plans to expand into other regions in the future.
The first three cinema locations are being built in the CBD of Sydney, the Gold Coast, and in the central business district of Bondi.
While the first cinema will open in the Gold and Bondi CBDs, the company says it wants to open cinemas around Sydney, Bondi, and Sydney’s outer suburbs as well.
“Camelot Cinemases will be the largest cinema chain in Australia,” a spokesperson told The Verge.
“Its new cinema experience is designed to help provide a new cinema environment for moviegoers across Australia.”
Camelothos cinemas will be in Sydney, Gold Coast and Bondis central business districts.
A spokesperson for Camelot told The Australian they were keen to expand the Sydney-Gold Coast area, with its proximity to Bondi Airport, and the opportunity to create a new location in the outer suburbs.
“We have been working hard to get the right location in Sydney,” the spokesperson said.
“The new cinema will be an amazing addition to our existing business and we hope it will become a popular destination.”
The new cinemas are expected to open next year.
