The Mummys 3 won’t be coming to Amazon Studios and is instead being made in partnership with Universal Studios.
Amazon announced on Wednesday that it was reopening its own cinema, called the Loft Cinema, with the help of Universal.
The move is a clear sign that Amazon Studios, which had shuttered its existing film studio in 2015, is working on a new venture.
The new studio will be the largest on Amazon, with more than 1,000 employees, according to the company.
The Mummy3 will feature the return of two new characters: The mummy, played by Emily Blunt, and the mummy’s pet, played as Lara Croft, who also returned to the big screen.
Blunt’s character is still missing.
In a statement, Amazon Studios said the studio would not be bringing the Mummy back to the screen.
The studio is working with Universal on the project.
“It is a huge honor to be partnering with Universal to bring the Mummies 3 back to theaters and beyond.
The Mummies is a franchise that has been so popular across multiple platforms and we are thrilled to continue that momentum with the return to the theatre,” Amazon Studios president and chief content officer Tom Szkutak said in the statement.
The statement didn’t provide any details about what the Mummies 3 will be.
Blunt, who has played the Mum in several films since the 1990s, was first cast as Lara in 2015’s The Mum.
In that film, she portrayed the mummy as the mother of her two sons.
